Illusionary Listening describes a mode of perception in which listening dissolves the boundaries between space, body, and sound, opening pathways into new dimensions.
The festival presents acousmatic compositions, world premieres, live-electronic works, and ambisonic pieces by Martina Claussen, François Buffet, Louise Rossiter, Jakob Schauer, Isabella Forciniti, Enrique Mendoza, Veronika Meier, Benjamin Kubaczek, Manu Mitterhuber, and Thomas Gorbach.
Their artistic diversity spans a panorama from subtle, intimate moments of listening to expansive sonic illusions – a festival that makes the depth and poetry of acousmatic music truly tangible.
Four exceptional loudspeaker installations provide the spaces for this listening experience:
- the Vienna Acousmonium by Thomas Gorbach with its animated sound sculptures,
- the multi-channel listening room for acousmatic repertoire,
- the Hybrid Audio Diffusion System (HADS) by Enrique Mendoza, combining loudspeakers and headphones for an immersive sonic experience,
- as well as the DodecaOtto by Manu Mitterhuber – a quasi 360° sound sculpture that creates its own listening space.
