Oktober 26 2026 | Viola Sylvestris @ Festival Lá Nas Árvores – Palácio de D. Manuel – Évora – Portugal
At the Portuguese premiere of Viola Sylvestris, Thomas Gorbach immerses the audience in a sound world where nature and humanity meet. Inspired by the forests of Gesäuse National Park and the meticulous work of the Benedictine monk Gabriel Strobl, natural sounds from the landscape are transformed into fascinating sonic textures that gradually evolve.
The voice of an actress speaks the Latin names of 41 flower species—initially part of a harmonious soundscape, later unfolding into an acoustic interplay of dissonance, rotation, and fragmentation. Viola Sylvestris thus reflects the fragility of nature and invites reflection on the relationship between humans and the environment.
This new version at the Feel the Earth festival in Évora presents the acousmatic composition for the first time in a Portuguese setting—a sensory experience where nature, voice, and sound art converge, drawing the audience into the dynamic beauty of the natural world.
